I am so Happy!

January 23, 2009

Today was a great day!  I got an unexpected phone call today and then received a letter from Mary and another from her mother Patty!  I had the opportunity to write (email) Mary back and I can’t wait for her response.  I know this is just the beginning and it may take time but I am so excited!  I also got a few pictures of her.  I can’t believe how much she has changed.  She is so mature and turing into a teenager already!  I can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store next!

Home at last!

January 22, 2009

Yahoo we got to come home this afternoon!  The doctor said that he is sounding a lot better and because we have the nebulizer at home we can treat him here as needed!  She also put him on an inhaler to try to prevent him from getting this again.  He has been sick three times in a row and each time it as gotten worse.  She said if he gets it again it will be even worse.  We are going to do our best to keep him healthy through the rest of this RSV season.  We just need to watch him carefully and hope that he doesn’t get a secondary infection (like pneumonia).  Sierra had a cold (which was most likely the RSV) and hers did turn into pneumonia a couple weeks ago.

Oh it is nice to be home and it will be wonderful to sleep in my own bed after being gone a whole week!  Now I have to get back to my normal life 🙂  Hummmmmmmmmmmmm  I wonder what we should have for dinner tonight?  I guess there are some perks to being in the hospital and not having to worry about these things!  Of course I would much rather be home with all my children together!

Our Trip to the Coast!

Still Here…

January 21, 2009

Micah is doing pretty good today.  He was off oxygen all night.  A couple times they came in and said he would need to go on it and would even come back and say, “he isn’t on oxygen yet?” but they never actually hooked it up.  He would always recover and his sats would go back up.  The only issue is really when he first falls asleep.  For whatever reason when he relaxes to sleep his oxygen saturation falls and of course alarms go off like crazy.  That usually wakes him up and we have to start over with the falling asleep process 🙂

Today we had some student nurses come in which was kind of fun.  The teacher was teaching them about the equipment and I learned a lot!  I guess when you are stuck in this little room all day and night anything is entertainment!  Micah is just hanging out in his crib playing with his toes right now.  He actually ate a little bit of applesauce today!  I really really think that they will let him come home at some point today.  They still hear wheezing but the breathing treatments have actually started to help out a lot.  We have a breathing machine at home so we should be able to continue them as needed at home.  I will post again when I know for sure that we are going home.

Hanging in there…

January 20, 2009

Micah is still here in the hospital but he is doing okay.  His breathing is still fast, he is wheezing a lot and has some retractions.  They just came in to give him another breathing treatment to see if that would help but it didn’t.  The good news is that he has been off oxygen now for several hours and his sats have been holding between 92 and 97 pretty steady.  If they go 90 or below they will put him back on the oxygen.

Mike went to work (right down the hall).  I told him he has to take extra breaks tonight so he can come over and check on us.  They have extra coverage today so that shouldn’t be a problem.  I went over to see Caleb this afternoon and my mom stayed with the baby.  It was good to see my big boy for that short time.  He wanted to come to the hospital or to “my house,” but I told him tomorrow.  He seemed okay with that!  He really enjoys spending time with Nana, Papa, Grandma, and Grandpa.  I am so thankful that he is happy and fine with me leaving.  It already hurts my heart to leave my other two kids for so long but if he was crying for me that would just make it so much worse.

Micah is taking a nap right now and my mom just brought me some Starbucks (thanks mom).  So I guess I will catch up on some emails and maybe even shut my eyes for a few moments.  I am sure as soon as I do the nurses will come in to check Micah 🙂  Thanks again for all your prayers!  We hope to bring Micah  home tomorrow.

Micah Update

January 20, 2009

Well the nurse said that he would most likely be spending another night so I ran home to take a shower and get a few things.  I just got back and Micah’s sats are doing really well.  They acutally turned off his oxygen for awhile to see how he would do and so far so good.  He is sound asleep in a swing right now.  The batteries in the swing are low so Mike and I are having to push him.  I am happy to see that he has taken a good nap and I am sure he will feel much better when he wakes up.  Micah nursed a few times today already so I think he is getting better.  His breathing is still fast and he is wheezing but that will just take time for him to get over.  Here are a few more pictures.  Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers for Micah.

This is where we sleep 🙂  Not too bad!

Micah at Children’s Hospital Central California

January 20, 2009

It all started on Thursday night when we were out of town on vacation at the Central Coast.  We left the older two kids with my parents and just took Micah.  That night Micah woke up with a fever and he started wheezing.  We did enjoy most of our vacation (more on that later) but Micah continued to get worse.  We decided to come home early on Monday so that we could get him in to the doctor.  His doctor did a breathing treatment in the office but that didn’t seem to work.  Micah’s sats were in the low 90’s, his heartrate was really high, his breathing rate was around 60, and he had only eaten about 2 ounces all day.  The doctor decided it was time to head to the hospital.

We arrived in the ER last night around 7:00pm and after several failed breathing treatments they decided to admit him.  His chest x-ray showed what would be consistent with RSV or Bronchiolitis (you can google that).  His oxygen levels were dropping down to 85 and so he needed oxygen.  We were admitted and arrived in our room about 10:00pm.

They have tried to  turn off his oxygen several times but he always desats, so for now he still needs it.  I didn’t get much sleep last night so I am exhausted but I will be okay.  I wanted to make sure Mike got sleep since he starts his shift at 2:30pm tonight.  He is a pharmacist here at the hospital so if we need to stay overnight again at least he can be right here if I need him!  We have a private room and the hospital has internet connection so I can update the blog as needed.  Here are some pictures of Micah in the ER and in his hospital room.jan-2009-micah-hospital-063jan-2009-micah-hospital-072jan-2009-micah-hospital-088jan-2009-micah-hospital-095jan-2009-micah-hospital-099

My Boys

January 8, 2009

Here are some fun pictures of my boys.  I can already tell it is going to be so much fun having two boys close in age!  I am so glad we have a big backyard for them to run, play, and get out all that energy!  I can’t wait until they start playing together.

I love my night time talks with my kids.  Caleb being a currious 2 year old comes up with some pretty funny thoughts.  A few nights ago we were talking about God and how He is everywhere and He sees everything.  Caleb said “I can hide from God over there,” pointing to the corner of his room.  I replied, “No honey God can still see you over there.”  Then he says, “Well I can hid from God under my bunkbed.”  So we had to have another discussion about how no matter where he is, he can not hide from God.  He is learning though because the following night he says, “We have to talk to God because God is everywhere!”

Picture of the year!

My dad captured the best Christmas picture this year!  He wins the best picture of 2008 award in my house!  See for yourself and tell me what you think!

Do these kids look familiar?

January 1, 2009

Look how much they have grown!  These were taken in July 2006!  The girls were just about 5 & 6 years old and the babies were only 3 & 4 months old.  How fun it is looking back!
